New York Medical Cannabis Industry Association Welcomes Governor Cuomo’s Call For Adult-Use Legalization In 2021 Session
The New York Medical Cannabis Industry Association (NYMCIA) released the following statement in response to the Governor’s outline for legalizing cannabis for adult recreational use in today’s press release:
“We applaud the Governor for his continued commitment to establishing a safe, well-regulated and equitable adult-use cannabis program, and for recognizing the significant untapped potential of the cannabis industry to assist New York in its ongoing economic recovery effort. As medical cannabis providers, we stand ready to play a key role in jump-starting New York’s adult-use program, just as we have in states across the country, by speeding access to affordable products while generating much-needed tax revenue and well-paying jobs.”
“We wholeheartedly agree with the Governor that any successful adult-use program must address the long-standing harm caused to communities of color by cannabis prohibition. In addition, it is paramount that existing and future medical cannabis patients have expanded access to affordable products, which can be achieved in part by the legalization of whole flower and allowing the co-location of medical and adult-use dispensaries.”
“We look forward to seeing more details of the Governor’s adult-use proposal in his forthcoming executive budget, and to a successful negotiation process with the state Legislature that finally provides New Yorkers with a robust, reliable, and equitable cannabis program.”
