New York Medical Cannabis Industry Association (NYMCIA) following the Cannabis Control Board’s first public meeting
We appreciate the Cannabis Control Board’s commitment to quickly advancing a comprehensive regulatory framework for the state’s cannabis industry, for which New Yorkers have been waiting since the passage and signing into law of the Marijuana Regulation & Taxation Act (MRTA) at the end of March. The Association looks forward to working with the Board members on expanding the much-needed equity opportunities for members of communities who have been disproportionately impacted by decades of cannabis prohibition. We are also particularly encouraged by the Board’s action today on critical improvements to the existing medical cannabis program that will greatly improve access and affordability for patients. Board members rightly recognized that approving whole flower as an approved product form of medical cannabis at dispensaries statewide must occur immediately, and we will do everything we can to ensure that the process of implementing this and other changes moves forward smoothly.
